GLU. Glossar zu Niklas Luhmanns Theorie sozialer Systeme

by Claudio Baraldi, Giancarlo Corsi, Elena Esposito

- angeben.

        Compound Polyhedra - Modular Origami

        by Fergus Currie

Origami experts know that understanding shape and geometry is vital. But building many beautiful complex shapes is not a simple matter. Mathematics at school or college rarely prepares us for such a practical task. What origami method could possibly build complex structures like compound polyhedra? Fergus Currie's book of geometric models of advanced modular origami has full instructions and diagrams on how to make elegant, beautiful and practical models. It also includes an introduction with sections on the mathematics behind the models; a short history of modular origami; a section on tools and folding techniques, and a gallery of the finished models that are presented in the book.

CRM Monograph Series   Volume: 39; 2023; 127 pp MSC: Primary 11; 57; 14; 32;   Note: This book is in French. This book provides a detailed exposition of the material presented in a series of lectures given in 2020 by Prof. Nicolas Bergeron while he held the Aisenstadt Chair at the CRM in Montréal. The topic is a broad generalization of certain classical identities such as the addition formulas for the cotangent function and for Eisenstein series. The book relates these identities to the cohomology of arithmetic subgroups of the general linear group. It shows that the relations can be made explicit using the theory of higher rank modular symbols, ultimately unveiling a concrete link between topological and algebraic objects.   Readership Graduate students and researchers interested in modular forms and/or special values of L-functions.

A Clinical Guide for Transforming Emotional Pain

        by Ladislav Timulak, Daragh Keogh

Emotion-Focused Therapy is an effective transdiagnostic treatment for the common symptoms that underlie depression, anxiety, and other related disorders.Given the high comorbidity of mental health symptoms and our growing understanding of psychopathology, transdiagnostic treatments are becoming more and more common. This book conceptualizes Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) as a transdiagnostic approach for treating a variety of mental health problems by accessing and transforming the underlying vulnerability of the core emotional pain and, in light of this, examining clusters of symptoms such as anxiety. The authors use elements of a modular approach that is the culmination of a decade-long research program. They target some symptom-level presentations, as well as the underlying emotional vulnerability that manifests in depression, anxiety, and other related disorders. This approach integrates a range of symptom-level EFT tasks, including tasks aimed at facilitating regulation of emotional distress, as well as tasks that specifically target self-worrying, rumination, perfectionism, and other discrete symptoms. Strategies that target clusters of symptoms, such as two-chair dialogues and self-interruption, are illustrated through richly detailed session transcripts. This book helps mental health professionals enable their clients to access emotional vulnerability, facilitate emotional regulation, guide emotional transformation processes, and engage in healthy interpersonal experiences.

The Minimum You Need to Know About Service Oriented Architecture

        by Roland Hughes

2008 Best Books Award Winner in the category Business: Computers/Technology/Internet - USA Book News. Service Oriented Architecture is all the rage these days. Dozens, if not hundreds of books are published on it, and more seem to show up every day. This book isn't awash with buzzwords and jargon. In truth, this book will probably be shunned by the SOA eltie. Rather than focus on the front end, this book focuses on the back end. That Heritage data silo/application where all of the other books just draw a box with "connect somehow" written on it. Most of them try to sell some expensive midleware along the way. Management can and should read the first five chapters in the book. These chapters aren't technical and may very well open their eyes. The remaining chapters are for those programmers given the "connect somehow" task. While OpenVMS is the Heritage platform of choice in this book and Ubuntu is used for the front end development, developers from other platforms should get a lot of ideas by reading this book.

Advancing the Competitiveness and Efficiency of the U.S. Construction Industry

by Committee on Advancing the Competitiveness and Productivity of the U.S. Construction Industry, National Research Council

Construction productivity--how well, how quickly, and at what cost buildings and infrastructure can be constructed--directly affects prices for homes and consumer goods and the robustness of the national economy. Industry analysts differ on whether construction industry productivity is improving or declining. Still, advances in available and emerging technologies offer significant opportunities to improve construction efficiency substantially in the 21st century and to help meet other national challenges, such as environmental sustainability. Advancing the Competitiveness and Efficiency of the U.S. Construction Industry identifies five interrelated activities that could significantly improve the quality, timeliness, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability of construction projects. These activities include widespread deployment and use of interoperable technology applications; improved job-site efficiency through more effective interfacing of people, processes, materials, equipment, and information; greater use of prefabrication, preassembly, modularization, and off-site fabrication techniques and processes; innovative, widespread use of demonstration installations; and effective performance measurement to drive efficiency and support innovation. The book recommends that the National Institute of Standards and Technology work with industry leaders to develop a collaborative strategy to fully implement and deploy the five activities

        ANA

        by Roberto Santiago

Ana Tramel: With A for attorney. With A for addicted to alcohol, pills and sex. And with A for anaesthetized (to emotions, adjectives, and sycophants). In this story absolutely everything revolves around her, the protagonist, narrator and dynamo of the plot. In her forties, she’s about to experience a journey to the dark side of the gambling world, and to come up against an international corporation that deals in thousands of millions and has hundreds of lawyers on their payroll. Said with the utmost humility: from this moment on, we are all AnaTramel. In ANA nothing is what it seems. Not one of the characters is exactly a saint. And as Patricia Highsmith said of one of her stories ‘they are going to see a woman do what no male protagonist in literature of the past forty years would dare: behave with compassion, heroism and expose her body and soul to humiliation’.
