Paper Crane Agency
A key source for international publishers looking for new titles from Japan, we facilitate collaborations with Japanese authors, illustrators and publishers. We also assist publishers who are licensing Japanese content with translation, adaptation and localization to make publishing Japanese books in translation as easy as possible. In Japan, the crane is a symbol of good fortune, happiness and longevity. Origami folded paper cranes are often given as an expression of good wishes and peace. At Paper Crane, we hope that all the titles we present or create – our “good wishes” from Japan – will bring enjoyment to readers of all ages, wherever they are in the world.

I Dream of Being a Concrete Mixer
by Hussain Al Mutawaa
An uplifting tale about the power of friendship, finding your place in the world, and realising your dreams while remaining true to who you are. Tumbledown is a little demolition truck growing up in a loving family. His parents go to work every day demolishing buildings with their big wrecking balls. But soft-hearted Tumbledown doesn’t like to destroy. He’d rather build things. He dreams of being a cement mixer. When Tumbledown cries, his wrecking ball swings out and destroys everything it touches. When Tumbledown laughs, his wrecking ball swings out and destroys everything it touches. His soft heart can’t skip a beat without leaving a trail of destruction. At school other students laugh at him, but still he won’t let go of his dream. When Tumbledown makes friends with a feisty troop of metal springs, they hatch a plan to save him from himself. They fan out over his wrecking ball and every time it swings they do their best to absorb the shock. The day comes when the worn-out springs turn to the Wise Old Crane for help. Tumbledown can never be a cement mixer, but maybe there are other ways, better suited to his nature. After some search, the Wise Old Crane finds a new job for Tumbledown at a construction site using his wrecking ball to smooth out the cement on the ground. It’s hard work but Tumbledown is finally happy, and he grows stronger and more skillful with every passing day.

Lady Susan
Ein Roman in Briefen
by Jane Austen, Angelika Beck

Anthony Ascham and English political thought (1648–50)
by Peter Lake, Marco Barducci, Anthony Milton, Jason Peacey, Alexandra Gajda
This book provides a careful and systematic analysis of Anthony Ascham's career and writings for the first time in English. During the crucial period between the Second Civil War and the establishment of the English Republic, when he served as official pamphleteer of the Parliament and the republican government, Ascham put forward a complex argument in support of Parliament's claims for obedience which drew on the political thought of Grotius, Hobbes, Selden, Filmer and Machiavelli. He combined ideas taken from these authors and turned them into a powerful instrument of propaganda to be deployed in the service of the political agenda of his Independent patrons in Parliament. This investigation of Ascham's works brings together an intellectual analysis of his political thought and an exploration of the interaction between politics, propaganda and political ideas.

A new naval history
by Quintin Colville, James Davey, Katherine Parker, Elaine Chalus, Evan Wilson, Barbara Korte, Cicely Robinson, Cindy McCreery, Ellie Miles, Mary A. Conley, Jonathan Rayner, Daniel Spence, Emma Hanna, Ulrike Zimmerman, Max Jones, Jan Rüger
A New Naval History brings together the most significant and interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary naval history. The last few decades have witnessed a transformation in how this field is researched and understood and this volume captures the state of a field that continues to develop apace. It examines - through the prism of naval affairs - issues of nationhood and imperialism; the legacy of Nelson; the socio-cultural realities of life in ships and naval bases; and the processes of commemoration, journalism and stage-managed pageantry that plotted the interrelationship of ship and shore. This bold and original publication will be essential for undergraduate and postgraduate students of naval and maritime history. Beyond that, though, it marks an important intervention into wider historiographies that will be read by scholars from across the spectrum of social history, cultural studies and the analysis of national identity.

Invasive Birds
Global Trends and Impacts
by Colleen T. Downs, Lorinda A. Hart
This book is about globally invasive alien birds. It consists of three sections. In the first section, a species account for each of the 32 global avian invader species (as listed by the Invasive Species Specialist Group, ISSG) is provided. Here experts currently conducting or who have previously researched these species provide detailed, up-to-date information of these birds and their current invasive status on a global scale, with images of the species and distribution maps. Details provided include physical description, diet, introduction and invasion pathway, breeding behaviour, habitat, impacts of species, control and any uses for this species. In the second section, avian invasions are discussed biogeographically, further highlighting aspects of current and emerging invasive species in different countries. In the third section, the ecology and impacts of avian invasive species is considered.
