The original edition published in Hebrew has proved interesting to readers of all ages. Chava Kohavi Pines was born Eva Hirsch in 1927 in Vienna, Austria, to a middle-class Jewish family. Since immigrating to Palestine in 1946, the author has resided in Kibbutz Dorot in the northern Negev where she worked as a teacher and counselor for years. Only with forty years’ distance from the trauma of her youth has she been able to write an account of some of her experiences during the Holocaust. An English-language eBook edition was published in late 2014 by Samuel Wachtman's Sons Inc., CA. An Italian edition was published in early 2017 by Edizioni Terra Santa, Milano. 80 pages, 14 x 21.5 cm

Paul-Michel Foucault wurde am 15. Oktober 1926 in Poitiers als Sohn einer angesehenen Arztfamilie geboren und starb am 25. Juni 1984 an den Folgen einer HIV-Infektion. Nach seiner Schulzeit in Poitiers studierte er Philosophie und Psychologie in Paris. 1952 begann seine berufliche Laufbahn als Assistent für Psychologie an der geisteswissenschaftlichen Fakultät in Lille. 1955 war er als Lektor an der Universität Uppsala (Schweden) tätig. Nach Direktorenstellen an Instituten in Warschau und Hamburg (1958/1959) kehrte er 1960 nach Frankreich zurück, wo er bis 1966 als Professor für Psychologie und Philosophie an der Universität Clermont-Ferrand arbeitete. In diesem Zeitraum erschien 1961 seine Dissertationsschrift Folie et déraison. Histoire de la folie à l'âge classique (dt.: Wahnsinn und Gesellschaft). Er thematisierte darin die Geschichte des Wahnsinns und das Zustandekommen einer Abgrenzung von geistiger Gesundheit und Krankheit und die damit einhergehenden sozialen Mechanismen. 1965 und 1966 war er Mitglied der Fouchet-Kommission, die von der Regierung für die Reform des (Hoch-)Schulwesens eingesetzt wurde. 1966 wurde Les mots et les choses – Une archéologie des sciences humaines (dt.: Die Ordnung der Dinge) veröffentlicht, worin er mit seiner diskursanalytischen Methode die Wissenschaftsgeschichte von der Renaissance bis ins 19. Jahrhundert untersuchte. Nach einem Auslandsaufenthalt als Gastprofessor in Tunis (1965-1968) war er an der Reform-Universität von Vincennes tätig (1968-1970). 1970 wurde er als Professor für Geschichte der Denksysteme an das renommierte Collège de France berufen. Gleichzeitig machte er durch sein vielfältiges politisches Engagement auf sich aufmerksam. In diesem Kontext entstand die Studie Surveiller et punir (dt.: Überwachen und Strafen). 1975-1982 unternahm er Reisen nach Berkeley und Japan sowie in den Iran und nach Polen.

La historia gira alrededor de tradiciones de los antiguos tiempos y hechos históricos que se complementan. Todo ello mezclado con la imaginación de Shamosh, logra apasionar al lector. En el año 1400, el gran conquistador Timur Lang llega a la ciudad siria de Jalab (Aram de Soba) y desde ella envía diez familias judías de tintoreros de seda al exilio, desterrándolos a Samarkand, capital del imperio de Timur, en la ruta de la seda. Timur Lang también rapta vírgenes judías, y las retiene en sus harenes. Una de las vírgenes conquista el corazón del hijo de Timur, un hombre inteligente y creativo que gobierna bajo sus órdenes. El rey Elías, “hijo de la judía,” que fue criado en la fe islámica, embarca rumbo a España con el propósito de conocer y comprender el mundo cristiano y judío, en pleno apogeo en esa época en España. Elías, en busca de una identidad y también una novia, encuentra a ambas en Jalab, ciudad de sus ancestros maternos. Su joven esposa procede de la familia Dayan, con parentescos de la dinastía de la tribu de David. La novela está compuesta de tres líneas narrativas. La primera, acontece en el siglo quince y se centra principalmente en la familia real en el harén en Samarkand. La segunda, al principio del siglo veinte, en el barrio Bujaro de Jerusalén, donde inmigrantes de Bujaría y Jalab están apiñados juntos, y reciben la visita de los líderes de esta sociedad de nuevos judíos inmigrantes a la vecindad. La tercera línea narrativa acontece en la última década del siglo, con la inmigración masiva de judíos rusos; la historia se concentra en los inmigrantes Bujaros. El protagonista es Oshi Shauloff Ben-Shaul, nacido en el barrio Bujaro, cuya madre, de origen sirio (Jalab), es descendiente de la familia Dayan, anteriormente mencionada, y sus raíces pertenecen a una de las familias que fueron exiliadas de Jalab a Samarkand. Esta novela, emocionantemente erótica, mas refinada y moderada, tiene un estilo inmediato poderoso e inspirador – como esperamos de los trabajos de Amnon Shamosh.
