The co-monarchy of Mary I and Philip II put England at the heart of early modern Europe. This positive reassessment of their joint reign counters a series of parochial, misogynist and anti-Catholic assumptions, correcting the many myths that have grown up around the marriage and explaining the reasons for its persistent marginalisation in the historiography of sixteenth-century England. Using new archival discoveries and original sources, the book argues for Mary as a great Catholic queen, while fleshing out Philip's important contributions as king of England.

Die Idee zu diesem Buch kam der Herausgeberin Friederike Schilbach auf einer Ferienreise: »Ich besuchte eine Freundin in Apulien und bemerkte, dass ihr Badezimmer ihrem Charakter ähnelt: luftig, minimalistisch, schön. Ehe ich abreiste, bat ich sie um ein Foto davon sowie um einige Sätze dazu.« Daraus wurde ein ganzes Projekt. Friederike Schilbach fragte Schauspielerinnen wie Lena Dunham, die Schriftstellerinnen Erica Jong und Lily Brett und zahlreiche weitere Frauen, ob sie einen Blick in ihr Badezimmer preisgeben würden. 2016 wurde eine Ausstellung daraus, über die es in der FAS hieß, man würde die Fotos »am liebsten alle zusammen in einem Bildband mit nach Hause nehmen«. Der liegt nun vor. Hundert Frauen teilen darin intime Momente und persönliche Erinnerungen, die zum Nachdenken anregen – und zum Verschenken.

Gateway communities that neighbour parks and protected areas are impacted by tourism, while facing unique circumstances related to protected area management.
