The Operationalized Psychodynamic Diagnosis (OPD) is a form of multiaxial diagnostic and classification system based on psychodynamic principles, analogous to those based on other principles such as DSM and ICD. It is based on five axes: I = experience of illness and prerequisites for treatment, II = interpersonal relations, III = conflict, IV = structure, and V = mental and psychosomatic disorders (in line with Chapter V (F) of the ICD-10). After an initial interview lasting 1–2 hours, the clinician (or researcher) can evaluate the patient’s psychodynamics according to these axes and enter them in the checklists and evaluation forms provided. The new version, OPD-2, has been developed from a purely diagnostic system to include a set of tools and procedures for treatment planning and for measuring change, as well as for determining the appropriate main focuses of treatment and developing appropriate treatment strategies. Bei Pogromen gegen Juden wurden in Polen nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg mehr als 1500 Menschen getötet. Woher kam dieser Haß? Wieso nahm der Antisemitismus derart aggressive Formen an? Jan T. Gross zeigt, wie sich der traditionelle katholische Antisemitismus durch die deutsche Besatzung radikalisierte und nach der Befreiung durch die Rote Armee fortbestand, vor allem im Glauben an einen »jüdischen Bolschewismus«. Der Autor schildert die Auseinandersetzungen innerhalb der polnischen Gesellschaft um das Verhältnis zu den Juden, er zeigt detailliert, wie es 1945 und 1946 zu den großen Pogromen von Rzeszów, Krakau und Kielce kam. Diese waren keine Erscheinungen am Rande der Gesellschaft, sondern sie fanden mit Unterstützung der Bevölkerung statt. Gross sieht im polnischen Antisemitismus ein Zeichen der »Angst«: die Angst vor den Rückkehrern und nicht zuletzt die Angst, den Besitz der jüdischen Nachbarn wieder zu verlieren, den man sich unter den Deutschen angeeignet hatte.

Towards a just Europe
A theory of distributive justice for the European Union

This highly original book constitutes one of the first attempts to examine the problem of distributive justice in the European Union in a systematic manner. João Labareda argues that the set of shared political institutions at EU level, including the European Parliament and the Court of Justice of the EU, generate democratic duties of redistribution among EU citizens. Furthermore, the economic structure of the EU, comprising a common market, a common currency and a free-movement area, triggers duties of reciprocity among member states. The responsibilities to fulfil these duties, Labareda argues, should be shared by the local, national and supranational levels of government. Not only should the EU act as a safety net to the national welfare systems, applying the principle of subsidiarity, but common market and Eurozone regulations should balance their efficiency targets with fair cooperation terms. The concrete policy proposals presented in this book include a threshold of basic goods for all EU citizens, an EU labour code, a minimum EU corporate tax rate and an EU fund for competitiveness. Labarada argues that his proposals match the political culture of the member states, are economically feasible, can be translated into functioning institutions and policies and are consistent with the limited degree of social solidarity in Europe. This book is a major contribution to the understanding of what a just Europe would look like and what it might take to get us there.
